Charism

The charism of the society is an ardent love for the person of Christ is expressed in self-sacrificing service by which the members sanctify themselves and become the leaven for the sanctification of others.

Motto

Spread the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and love all with a human heart.

Aim

The supreme aim of the society is the pursuit of holiness by being United with God through prayer, by apostolic ministry and practice of Christian charity. The life of an oblate is for the praise and Glory of God.

Our Founder

Bishop Alexander Chulaparambil is the founder of the Society of the Oblates of the Sacred Heart (OSH). The society of the OSH was established by him on 21st November 1921. He erected the society while he was the bishop of Kottayam. By establishing the society, he realized the dream of and desire of the Bishop Mathew Makil.

Priestly ministry | 'Feed My Sheep'

Oblates must be men of self-giving to the people of god for their salvation and sanctification. The priestly ministry gets first place in our apostolic activities especially for the members who are priests. Our priestly ministry includes in rendering pastoral help in the archdiocese of Kottayam and in other diocese upon the request of other bishops.

Family apostolate | 'Family of Families'

The oblates have the responsibility to instil in families, the love and compassion of the sacred heart of Jesus and help them to experience it in their lives. Family visits, counselling to the couples who are in troubles, conduct seminars for youth etc helps us to foster family apostolate.

Education ministry | 'Lighten to Enlighten'

The educational mission of the OSH is not restricted to Catholics alone but it is extended to all other to promote the entire development of the human person, the welfare of the earthly society builds up the world fashioned in a better way.

Ecumenism | 'to be reunion'

Following the example of our founder, the oblates shall render our services for the ecumenical activities. The reunion movements were a ministry entrusted to the society by the founder. the society of the OSH had served and are serving the Knanaya Malankara catholic community at present.

Mission Apostolate | 'To be Sent Out'

The members of the society participate in the mission of Christ by proclaiming and witnessing the word of god. The most important and duty of a Christian missionary is to teach people about jesus christ and his commandment to love god and to love others. Every human person is entrusted with a unique mission I am a mission on this earth; that is the reason why I am here in this world (EG 273).

Social Apostolate | 'Spend and be Spent'

The purpose of social apostolate is to build a fuller expression of justice and charity, based upon gospel values. The consideration one given to the poor and the needy makes his a “friend of Jesus” and motivates him to lead a meaningful and radical life with a compassionate heart.
